Local junior golf tours: questions families ask

What is a local junior golf tour?
A local junior golf tour runs tournaments within one metro area or state, usually one-day 18-hole (or 9-hole) events with entry fees well under national-tour prices. They are run by state golf associations, PGA of America Sections, non-profits, and independent organizers, and they are where most competitive juniors play their first events.
Which junior tour should a beginner start with?
Players under 12 usually start with U.S. Kids Golf local tours, PGA Jr. League, or First Tee, then move to a PGA Section junior tour or their state golf association's junior tour. Pick the tour with the closest events and the shortest yardages for your player's age, then add multi-day events once scores are consistently in the 80s.
Do local tour results count toward rankings?
Many do. State association and PGA Section tours often report to Junior Golf Scoreboard, and several regional tours award AJGA Performance Based Entry stars. Each program page on this site shows what its results count toward.
How much do local junior tournaments cost?
Local one-day events typically run $40 to $120, PGA Section and state association events $60 to $200, and regional two-day tours $150 to $350, plus an annual membership at many tours. Every program page lists published fees where the organizer publishes them.
